I put the vampire in Zero. [ Zane doesn't appear injured at all. In fact, he barely appears ruffled. ]
I'm not his warden, but I suggest that you don't visit him and don't message him. Let him be bored.
I'm letting him out tomorrow morning, as Zero clearly isn't a permanent solution. It should be enough time for anyone who wants to put mountain ash in front of their cabin doors.

[ Zane is the somewhat-archetypal second son of a king; without the promise of inheritance, and with the shadow of scandal over his birth, he has gone out to seek his fortune. He travels with light armor and a sword, calm and quiet and determined.
He wanders through the Barge, and will help anyone who appears to need it, even if it's something as simple as helping a person carry a load of straw, even if it's as complex as offering defense against a monster. ]

What would you like me to do to stop him, then? Without defeating the purpose of him being here. The purpose that is equally valid, whether someone kills for fun or for ambition.
[ As Derek has heavily implied to Zane that he does. ]

Have I ever said all inmates are the same?
[But then he sees what he wants to see, out of people he hasn't actually gotten much chance to know. He sees Zane's composed confidence as arrogance - and he's prideful enough that their egos rub together the wrong way.]

Jerry Dandrige is a vampire that stalks teenagers for sport. Hannibal Lecter is a serial killer. Mason is an idiot who made countless poor choices that probably hurt himself as much as any other. Morgana Pendragon was a well-intentioned extremist trying to protect her own kingdom. And me, I ran a corporate empire that ground dozens of people into dust because they made the mistake of standing in front of it. But I suppose all of us would only get the same one night in Zero, if it was up to your say.
And the last time I put Hannibal in Zero I broke his arm.
[ Though he's not proud of that. ]

It's to protect them from retaliation. It's to stop things from escalating. It's a temporary punishment, sometimes. But it doesn't do anything. And I personally don't like using it. Ever.
Since Jerry isn't stopping, I'm leaving a day for people to use mountain ash if they want. That seems reasonable.
Now you tell me if you would rather me treat all inmates the same, or treat them differently because of how I think they're good people.

But when he answers finally it's with a scowl.]
I've made it abundantly clear I'll never have any interest in having your job, and anyway around here I tend to get scolded if it comes across like I'm trying to tell the wardens what I think they should do.
So I am not going to tell you how to do your job. I'm merely remarking when I think you're doing it poorly. Consider it constructive feedback. From us "poor souls" you have here at your mercy.

You know I was an inmate first, don't you? When I became a warden, I realized that there are a thousand ways to go about this. You're not my inmate. Sylvanas's opinion is the one that matters to me.
[ A beat, then: ]
I know you're trying to protect them - the ones Jerry's attacking. That's good. But they're wardens. They need to take care of themselves. It means they'll get hurt. I think you should try trusting them to be able to handle themselves.

[There's another pause, this time more heated, and then he swaps over off the general filter onto private.]
What do you think you know, about who I might or might not be trying to protect?
Don't judge me by Megamind. And don't judge him by me.
[ This is flat, and a little irritated. He certainly doesn't want to bear the brunt of what he sees as Megamind's egotistical, unsympathetic and frivolous approach to wardening. Megamind has hurt people he cares about. Megamind has hurt him. And instead of backing down, ever, Zane has only ever seen Megamind try to throw accusations on someone else. ]

I - Nothing, except that you're concerned about the harm he's going to cause, and you keep saying they're teenagers.
Then try not to have so much in common with him. [This is said with sneering, sharp mockery.] He pulls the same card on me all the time. "I used to be an inmate. I know what you're going through." Pathetic.
[ private ]
[He sets his jaw for a second, contemplating whether or not he wants to answer. Whether after already having a debate with Zane once where he claimed he felt nothing for anyone, he should admit that isn't true anymore and open himself for the insults.]
...Lydia Martin is my friend. And now so is Allison Argent. [That one sets a record, especially for him. But Allison clearly has some kind of awesome powers.] And the rest of their little 'pack', they care about them, so if he goes after them it's in my affair now too. This is personal, you meddling simpleton. I'm not doing this for my health.
I felt helpless. And angry. And judged, for someone to say that I had lived my life the wrong way. I thought the Admiral was wrong. I thought he was distant and cruel and flawed.
And I still think so. I'm here for Sylvanas. And Morgana, and the Emperor, and Cass. I refuse to leave them here alone while I have the chance to stay.
[ private ]
Then listen to Lydia. Ask her what she wants. Ask Allison what she wants. I don't know what they'll say, but I think that if you want to call them something as meaningful as friend, you need to listen.
And he says he's only here so he can be reunited with the man he loves - you all have your reasons. That thing that somehow makes everything all so different, if only I could be brought to understand! If only I could give in and realize that it was all worth it! [Sardonic melodrama, naturally.] You're earned the right to be the voice of some experience because you've been on this ship longer. And that's about it.
[ private ]
Ms. Martin doesn't want this to be solved through violence, but it's the only language Dandrige understands. Ms. Argent is willing to do whatever she thinks necessary, including putting herself in the middle of risk and harm's way. Who shall I listen to, do you think? Who is the more wrong?

[ He's pretty sure on this one. ]

[He knows how to be patient when he has a visible goal in mind, but just sitting on his hands? No. He's too determined and fussy for that.]
