[ Kelsier brought him a rabbit.

A strange-looking rabbit with fur around its face. And then Kelsier left.

Zane stares at the rabbit.

It stares back.

He picks up his communicator, finally, breaking a long silence. He doesn't want to go through the process of apologizing to people. He wants them to be apologized to, but he can't... he doesn't know how to begin.

So: ]

What do you do with a rabbit

[ deck spam ]

[ ...and now he is hunting. On deck. For the hidden rabbit supplies. Damn it Kelsier. ]

[Oh. Well. In that case. He nods slowly.]

Okay.

[He glances up at Zane briefly, then back to the rabbit, still not entirely willing to meet his eyes.]

Why did you think I wasn't talking to you?

I don't know. You're usually really annoying after I yell at you.

Or when I don't yell at you.

Or in general.

[ He's trying to joke. It's not really working because he's tense, being outside of his room. He feels like he might at any moment attempt to stab someone. ]

It's a life skill.

[He is not smiling. But he will look at you now, Zane.]

He got you out of your room.

[It was a trick, but, in Cassel's opinion, an acceptable one.]

He shouldn't have.

[ The rabbit squirms a little, resettling itself. It seems entirely content to just let Zane hold it.

This has got to be the chillest rabbit ever. ]

[He shrugs. Not going to have this argument again. Looks at the rabbit.]

It likes you.

[And starts counting down to 'no that's ridiculous how could it like me'.]

[ A brief pause.

This is a reasonable conclusion, though Zane has no real understanding why. Don't animals like people that feed them? This rabbit does not like cabbage. ]

She.

[ A quiet correction. ]

[Well, that's a nice surprise. He smiles tentatively.]

She. Sorry.

Do you like her?

No.

[ This is a lie. ]

[Aaand we've reached peak grin.]

Okay.

What are you going to call her?

If you want her to have a name, then you name her.

Nah, I already went through my naming-animals quota for today.

[He ain't Adam, okay.]

Her name is Zane's Rabbit, I guess. Since you don't like her enough to give her a name.

That's what they tell you about strays, don't give them a name or you'll get attached. Which you obviously don't want to do.

That's not a name.

[ Rejected. ]

I thought you didn't care if she had a name?

[WHAT NOW.]

She's not going to have something like that.

Okay, well, I can't think of a better one [liar], so I guess it's going to have to be Zane's Rabbit. I can't just call her rabbit. That's ridiculous.

You can think of a better one. You just want to call her Zane.

Why would I want to call her Zane? You're Zane.

Because you want to punish me for not naming her.

I'll make someone else name her.

I'm not punishing you. It's called teasing. I can write up a definition if you need one.

If you want me to name the rabbit, I'll name the rabbit. Jesus.

And you think I should be attached.

I think you probably already are. I don't know about should.

I think she should be taken care of. I think you'd be a good person to take care of her. I think she might make you feel better. But there's no should about being attached to something.
