[ He builds you, in his mind, from the slivers of sight and sound that fall through the cracks of your world into his. He catches the curve of your hand, the glance of sunlight off of hat and hair, through the gaps of rope and rigging and rail. He goes still, and lets himself sink, and listens to the muffled half-sounds that hum in the water against his skin. He can hear your voice, from the dim-and-dullness, the quiet riot.

He is a patch of pale skin and a long, winding tail distorted by restless water. He is intrigued, but he is... shy? Cautious.

He will follow you anywhere there is water to swim. ]

[ ooc: Zane is a merperson who is spying on everyone, particularly people he finds intriguing or dangerous. This is especially open to people that we've plotted/discussed him stalking, but also open to... yep, pretty much everyone who wants to spot a mercreeper.

Also available for general interaction for fellow water-and-island-creatures! ]

[She struggles forward, eyes lighting up at the sight of something for her. She's got some plants for him that you can't reach without two legs, but he's always coming up with something good.] Course you do. It's good to see someone who can talk sense.

[Her first answer is a lightly indignant squawk.] I like nonsense when it goes back around to make sense again. Had some guests who didn't.

[She reaches up and out and takes a bite, schooling her face for what she knows from its color is going to be bitter. It isn't as bad as she anticipates, and she nibbles at the seaweed, hanging it off the side of her basket so she doesn't have to balance.

Someone else, a creature that doesn't talk, might like them more, but it's only polite.]

A human. And something a little like me.

They acted like they owned this place already.

Thank you. [She doesn't like telling him no; there's something that makes her think he might take it too personally. Creatures do, when you tell them yes so much.]

I think they do. I don't remember the last time.

I know. [She lets the seaweed flop, and scratches closer to him on the bank, in a range where she could touch him instead of him just reaching her.]

I mean I like you here. You don't get all exciteable like some of your kind do.

You don't want to take one of them home as a pet.

They should just meet at the shore. But those girls want to keep them.

They'd keep you instead. I think one of them wanted to take me home.

Same as usual. [She backs up from him to bump the basket further towards him with her chest. It's full of pink, plum-like fruit, a little sour and infused with something that makes her calm down, but seems like it does something else to him.]

What was left of them.

I offered. [She leans her head into the basket and clearly is fighting with herself about whether to take one or not, but pulls it back out.]

She seemed like she could be fun.
