The Admiral makes you a warden before you finish learning. Finding out what's right and what's wrong.
Is that because you never stop learning?

They can leave whenever they want.

And leave the inmate to someone who doesn't care as much. I see.

Then if they
stay
it's not because they're obeying the Admiral's rules. They could just
care
, instead of thinking their inmate did anything wrong.

And do what? Try to get them out? Change them anyway?

Just take care of them.

Until they go back to being dead, as the vast majority of inmates do.

Then they didn't leave them any worse off than they already were.
The Admiral offers one way to save someone. It's not
every
way.

People who mostly would have just died anyway.

Am I supposed to be grateful? It's not what I want. It's not what I would have chosen. The choice has been taken from me.

It wasn't what I would have chosen either.
But it gave me more than what I would have chosen.

I suppose that's what makes the difference, then. You'd trust him to know what's best.

No. I think that what he did in this case gave me a chance. It doesn't mean I think he's always right. It doesn't mean I trust him.

Take them with you. You'd rather they stay here where a flood could destroy them emotionally at any moment? They could get lost in a port and never remember who they are again?
