[ Zane broadcasts from the Kwoon. He's got a reputation as one of the best hand-to-hand fighters in there - maybe not particularly innovative with the jaeger, but in person he's incredible, fluid, graceful, in a league apart.
His partner is in a coma right now. His jaeger isn't operational. So he's been training people. ]
Who wants to lose a fight?
[ He asks it lightly, a little smile on his face. ]

[ Catch him in training, grabbing a meal in the cafeteria, or stop by his room. ]

He hasn't been in in the ring since he lost Nathan, the most pyrrhic victory, for all that Seattle was safe; half a day of solo piloting fried his motor cortex in ways he'll never really recover from, although his walk is almost steady now, and he doesn't shake settling to the floor and leaning against the wall to watch Zane trounce all comers. He likes this better, anyway, because Zane is splendid in motion, somehow, even though part of Marsh still half expects a toddler tripping over the sleeves of a 'borrowed' ranger jacket. He got so tall, somehow, in between all the battles, in between the the fights both epic and intimate. Zane is most splendid, Marsh thinks, in the small motions, adjusting someone else's stance by an inch, rebalancing their weight, the angle of knuckles, the focus and calm on his face even when only his pupil can hear each small lesson. Somehow or other, in spite of the world and the war, he grew up.
Marsh watches, as long as he can, because he thinks it is the only miracle he has left.]

In his grace she sees both herself and his father: Marsh's hairsplitting precision married to her own ebullient terrier joie de vivre in a way they never managed for their own lives, but it reaches perfection in their son.]
You'll go easy on your old Mum, won't you, Zane love?
[She grins wickedly as she says it: if he does go easy, Iris will make him sorry.]
